Miroslav Tichý

L'homme à la mauvaise caméra
2012

Miroslav Tichý (1926-2011, Czech Republic) was lately recognized as one of the greatest photographers of the XXth century. The important curator, Harald Szeeman, mainly disclosed him to the art world during the Sevilla biennial show in 2004. Followed the exhibitions at Zurich Kunsthaus (2005) and the Centre Pompidou (2008). His work, developped under the communist Czechoslovakia between the 1960's and 1980's, organizes itself around the female figure, on the fringes of the occidental artistic scene. He used makeshift cameras (fiddeld by himself with various objects, polishing lenses with toothpath) witch captured instinctively the surrounding reality. He invented, like every great painter, photographer or sculptor, an other personal, so new, reality, never seen before. Tichý's point of view is unusual, steamy, out of norms, badly made, so radically opposed to our "perfect", preprogrammed, world.
